GARY Taylor-Fletcher has warned Blackpool’s Championship rivals that his side will only get better.
Three wins out of four left the Seasiders top of the table at the international break, a point ahead of Blackburn, but the striker claims Pool are yet to hit top form.
Taylor-Fletcher said: “We are top of the league, yet I don’t think we’ve seen the best of us yet.
“In the Ipswich game, we weren’t the better team in the first half but we were ruthless in front of goal and ended up with a 6-0 win.
“If you look at the number of chances we’ve had, our conversion rate is probably up in the 50 per cent area. That’s very unusual but this team will score goals.
“We’ve started scoring early in games and killing teams off, whereas last season we were leaving it until late.”
Since arriving at Bloomfield Road in 2007, Taylor-Fletcher has seen it all – promotions, relegations and near misses – and having been part of some of the best squads in the club’s history, the 31-year-old thinks the current crop tops the lot.
As the Seasiders continue to be linked with a loan move for former favourite DJ Campbell, GTF insists the current squad is already the best he’s known. He added: “This is the best overall squad I’ve played in here – the depth we’ve got is brilliant. If players get injured now, we have lads who can come in and cover. A few years ago, if the likes of Charlie Adam, David Vaughan or Keith Southern got injured we’d be wondering who could replace them.
“I think the players who have been here over the years have got better as the team have. It’s a good improvement all round.”
They face three games in 10 days, starting with Saturday’s trip to Barnsley, but GTF thinks Pool are going into the busy period in fine form.
He said: “It probably says a lot about us now that we are disappointed not to have won four out of four.
“I think the performance wasn’t good enough against Leicester, though. But when you look at the first four fixtures, we would have taken nine points from them.
“Personally, I’m pleased with how I’ve started the season. I’ve got a goal and a few assists, and I have been playing quite well.”
Simon Grayson brought the former Huddersfield man to Pool as a right-midfielder. He has gone on to play in almost every position, including a short stint at right-back at Crystal Palace three seasons ago.
“Whatever position I’m needed in, I’m willing to do a job,” he said.
“I’ve played in midfield, in the hole and right across the front three so far this season. It shows my versatility and gives the gaffer options.”
