Liverpool have insisted that Sir Alex Ferguson oversees the transfer tribunal ahead of Charlie Adam’s prospective transfer to Stoke City.
The clubs had already agreed a £5million fee, but the Reds have now asked the Manchester United manager to get involved to make sure the valuation is accurate.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Alex is, of course, a very well respected figure in football and has long taken an interest in Liverpool transfer business.
“His role in bringing Charlie to the club in the first place was absolutely instrumental. We’d feel a lot more comfortable about the whole situation if he takes an impartial role in setting the fee.”
The request to get Fergie involved reportedly came about after a suggestion to the club’s owners from the Blackpool Liverpool Supporters’ Club.
The secretary of that supporters’ club, Joe Murray, said: “There’s no conspiracy. We just mentioned to [managing director] Ian Ayre that Fergie had done a similar job for Blackpool in the past.
“On that occasion he said ‘Charlie Adam, his corner kicks are worth £10m’. As he’s a man of great integrity and outstanding judgement we thought it would be good to let him carry out another valuation to make sure he hasn’t lost the plot and his ability to spot a player over the last couple of years.
“Obviously if he now thinks Adam’s corner kicks are worth less than £10m the world will know he’s no longer up to the United job. But we’ll see what figure he decides upon.”

fergie was very accurate with his assertion, it was worth far more than £10m to the Oysters.
The problem lies in that Liverpool wouldn't listen to anyones advice on where to play Charlie, and therefore deserve to lose 1/2 the money, no good blaming old red nose.
not a spoof
