To the surprise of many, Ian Holloway named an unchanged line up for the visit of Ipswich.
After saying it was tough to play three matches in eight days at the start of the season, it was surprising to see 39 year old Kevin Phillips start for the third game in a row and it perhaps told as he was unable to stamp his authority on the game. Many also expected Ian Evatt to come back in but he had to make do with a place on the bench alongside fit again club captain Barry Ferguson.
Blackpool made a slow start to the match and it was Ipswich who looked more likely in the opening stages. However, it was Blackpool who struck first and they managed to take the lead despite not having had a shot. Tom Ince capitalised on a mistake in the Town defence and fired the ball into the box in the general direction of Phillips but a defender intervened and put the ball into his own net.
Blackpool still struggled to create anything for the next half hour although Ipswich did seem to lose some confidence after going behind and Gilks was not troubled by anything other than a few tame efforts.
The turning point in the match came five minutes before the break when former Pool loanee Jay Emannuel-Thomas found space on the edge of the area and fired a fierce shot on goal which Gilks did really well to push round the post.
From that moment on Blackpool were in complete control of the match and doubled their lead on the stroke of half time with a great finish from Taylor-Fletcher following a lovely move. Tiago Gomes fed Ince down the left, Ince cut the ball back to Taylor-Fletcher who smashed the ball into the top of the net from 12 yards.
Blackpool started the second half as they ended the first and were three up three minutes after the break. Ince collected the ball on the left hand side of the area, bamboozled his man and fired across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Pool continued to dominate and ten minutes later Ince had his second. Taylor-Fletcher did well to pull the ball back to Gomes who rolled the ball to Ince who curled the ball into the corner from the edge of the area.
After a further five minutes, Pool made absolutely sure that the points were safe when they scored their fifth. Ince played a one two with Gomes from a corner and hit a high cross that was met by Cathcart who headed back towards the far corner and into the net.
After this Blackpool completely took their foot off the pedal and went into cruise control, dominating possession and not allowing their opponents a look in. Pool looked to have scored a sixth when Ince pounced on a loose backpass and substitute Nouha Dicko bundled the ball in but was denied by the referee's whistle.
Blackpool had to wait until injury time before they did get the sixth, Baptiste stopped an Ipswich brake, stolled forward and played the ball to substitute Matt Phillips who lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper, the ball was possibly going in but Dicko made sure from close range.
Although they had secured a fantastic 6-0 victory, the Seasiders possibly did not play as well as they did on Tuesday and they never really left second gear although they didn't need to.
Ince was fantastic scoring two and creating three, Ipswich couldn't cope with Gomes and Cathcart had a great game at the back. Three games three wins, goal difference +9, top scorers in the division and yet we still lack a striker!
On this form it is hard to see anyone beating the Seasiders.
