The 1,000-boat cavalcade on the Thames with the Queen's barge, etc., is the Jubilee Pageant.
This question, # 258, should have closed at 5:31 and another put up.

the annual event timed to co-incide with the Queens Jubilee grand boaty cruise is.......
the annual test of the Thames Tidal Barrier, carried out since 1984. It is usually tested once a year against a spring tide.
This year, uniquely, it will be tested and held closed for 12 hours, not something done before. This will create the effect of a Pool of London, and negate the normal effects of a tidal flow of up to 8knots, which would obviously create a challenging situation for some of the craft taking part.

the lord advocate is responsible for all prosecutions in scotland on behalf of the ruling monarch i thought, the same job in england fails to the director of public prosecutions or so i thought.
It use to be done by Attorney General but all he/she does now is appoint the director

tug of war, Polo with horses, motor boat racing were all early ones that no longer exist. Wasn't the standing long jump also in early on? I think softball is a more recent removal.
