With no apologies to Kipling (even though he does make exceedingly good cakes!)
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Tangerine, my son!
The dust has settled after the weekend and we find ourselves back in the bottom three.A place where every pundit in the land at the start of the season had us,though they all thought it would be with less than 10pts not the 36 we have.
So with that in mind and reflecting on how quiet it is on here I thought it timely to remind myself and all other Tangerines that "The fat lady" still hasnt started singing,and that whatever happens its important to remember just what a trip this is.
I dont know if anyone watched the program last night with Alan Sugar looking at the finances of the game and particularly the EPL.Iwas struck by the interview with Dave Whelan and the fact that he has pumped 100 mill yes 100 mill of his own money into Wigan and that they are at present 70 mill in dept and sit below us in the league.That some prem clubs are paying 90% of turnover in wages!That the average club receives 45 mill a year but spends over 100 mill!!!!
I know there are those out there who think we should be joining in this madness in our quest to retain our prem spot,but I for one am proud of the way we have gone about it.If we do retain our place and I for one believe we still can and will we will have struck a blow against the stupid model that so many clubs have adopted.
As for the poem! well for some reson the line "if you can keep your head when all about you are losiang theirs"seemed to me to be the mantra that we all should be keeping as this chapter in our Tangerine life draws to a close.
We are little old Blackpool and I'm proud of that fact so come on people throw off the gloom and carry on being the best supporters a team could have,nows not the time to go quietly but to give one final push and stick one on the nose of all those who say you must play by the stupid financial rules of gambling the family silver to stay in the prem,and strike a blow for sanity and "real" football clubs.
