Read this first...........Rant to follow. www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/pool_star_adam_must_stay_here_1_2939913Ok have you read it? Well lets begin. We are now two weeks into the transfer window and so far,zip nothing only lots of talk about losing our players and a few unsubstantiated bids for players. One from league 1 with a dodgy knee and a bid under what they value him at. One from a championship club who hasnt played for yonks after having, yes you guessed it .A dodgy knee. Another one from a championship club for which we have matched the selling price Hooray, but we look like we want to pay him peanuts(ok peanuts by footballer standards, not the real world) One for a Scottish drunk, street fighter and now possible rapist, another bid below value we are led to believe. One from America that plays in some rock band! Now looks like he's going to the Florists Thats pretty much it the rest we have no idea if the interest was real or just paper talk. We have three very influential players out of contract in the summer and yet we havn't hear a word about improved offers to them from the club. The new training ground seems to be taking an age even to show any sign of really happening. On this lets be honest if you own the land and you have the cash how long does it take to build a bloody changing room and lay an all weather pitch? What is going on? have Karl and the Board lost the plot or what?We all know the squad is thin on replacements and if we lose any of our players in this window we are going to be dragged back into the relegation scrap.Surely even Karl and the Bean counter can see that. All the clubs at the bottom are trying to get in fresh players and they aren't just offering peanuts like us either.Even the bloody chicken farmers seem to be able to get in players so why cant we.Unfortunately we know the answer ,quote from Ollie “Sometimes Karl (Oyston) doesn’t give a monkey’s about anybody when it comes to money" Now that kind of thing was fine when we didn't have any money and for that and everything else he has done in the past I praise him but I'm now starting to wonder if what was once his good point is now his Achilles heal. When we won promotion I was one who said have our year in the prem, enjoy the ride take the money rebuild the club and drop back into the championship. Not any more,I love us being where we are.I love us being on MOTD being talked about in the press, being on Super Sunday, being able to get live feeds on the internet.I love it all,and I dont want it to end for the sake of spending a bit of money that frankly has been thrown at us by Rupert Murdock a man and organisation I despise and the idea that that crooks money is helping rebuild my club fills me with joy. I also wonder how Long Ollie will be happy to let things go on the way they are if he starts losing his players and cant get in any replacements.Karl and the Board need to show him and us they really do want to stay in this league and not just pocket the cash,or sometime soon a "big" club will come a knocking and I for one wouldn't hold it against Ollie if he too wasn't tempted. I remember years ago we just missed out on promotion back to the top flight and in the summer we lost our Keeper Budgie, our centre half Paul Hart and our striker Micky Walsh. The next season we got relegated and its taken us nearly 40yrs to recover. That scenario haunts me and after all that has been achieved over the last few years I dont want to see it all thrown away. As the saying goes "Fail to prepare, prepare for failure" I so hope I'm wrong Up the Pool

Well said, John. Very good article. :-)
Whilst agreeing with pretty much everything you say, and to be truthful, I couldn't find anything to argue with, you know, as well as I, and a few thousand others, do, that -
KARL HATES SPENDING MONEY.
His inclination also seems to be "Leave everything until the last minute." - witness previous transfer windows.
Surely, as a 'businessman', he knows the age-old adage: "You've got to spectulate to accumulate" Well, why hasn't he?
We're also well aware that Wee Ollie is one for "keeping his cards close to his chest". Well and good, but I damn well hope we shore up the defence in this window, amongst a myriad of other positions, otherwise........
Which brings me to the $64,000 question: How much have we taken in from Sky, the league, etc., so far this season?
Which in turn leads us to - Where is that money?
Rightly or wrongly, (and I stand corrected on this vital point), I have a sneaking suspicion that Karl believes that this money belongs to him and his family - and not the club. I sincerely hope not, for all our sakes.
If that's not the case, we should see some of it spent (more often!) either over the past month, or in the coming month(s) or so.
We can all go on and on venting our frustrations, I know, but at the end of the day, we've got to put our trust in Wee Ollie to do what's right for the club and team.
Read GTF' article on the 'Gazette's' back page . Spot On!

The last time I looked we were 10th in the Premier League with over half a season gone and a game in hand over some teams. Pretty good I'd say.
Yes, Karl can be excruciatingly frugal but I think he has got the wage structure for the time being just right. Even Ollie agrees with that. I am sure that if we stay up, then with the money that will be paid for where we finish in the League, wages will almost certainly be more generous for next season. If we go down, which seems unlikely, then we are still financially sound having not broken the bank to gamble. I also think there will be a good bonus system in place.
Maybe I am more patient than some, who knows, but there seems plenty of time left yet in the transfer window. All most of us have to go on is paper talk and we know how reliable that is.
The training ground WILL happen, Ollie will see to that.
I am not in the least worried about a thing. Like most of you, my love affair with our great club started at a very early age and I can honestly say I have never been happier. Like any relationship, if you are feeling down, look back to the bad times and appreciate the good. A winters night at the Shay Stadium in Halifax remembered, always bring me back down to earth.
We have all had to walk in the dark for a long time with our beloved Blackpool FC; that walk should now make you appreciate the light even more.
Dont lets get like the other big time Charlie's of the Premier League. My mentality hasn't changed from day one; its all a bonus. Yes, it will be a blow if we ever got relegated but I have been through it all before.
I for one am not going to shout the odds at one of those who got us there in the first place, no matter how frustrating he can be. KO is not going to change, lets live with it. I actually believe he has got it right.

Well said Sandgrown. No rants until the window closes. Then no rants until the end of the season, then prepare for 2nd year in prem league. UTP

wow you go for it bjc, nothing wrong with a good old rant. But i still think their is a lot of smoke and mirrors going on with transfers. I keep posting what i find. But only 2 people really know who we are after. And i can see the players coming from overseas personally

Good post, Sandy. :-)
I think "slowly but surely" should be the byword in our situation.
(But not TOO 'slowly', mind.)
We all want to stay in the black, but get things done to the benefit of club, players, fans, and management, at a reasonable pace.

Thanks Sandy, a proper debate not the usual 606 bollocks.
I agree with a lot of what you say and also thank god that Karl has been here for the last few years, god only knows where we would have ended up.
Its just ,as you say we have (us oldies anyway) seen it all before, and I hope I'm not turning into a big time Charlie I just dont want to see all the hard work that has been put in over the last few years thrown away. Spoiling the ship for a ha'penny of tar springs to mind.
Maybe your just better at holding your nerve than I am,hope your right.

Well done BJC. Back onside. It is unbelieveable what KO has done. I used to hate him, but I have had to change my mind. After all he employed olly. In fact it all really started with Simon Grayson. UTP.

This is what I love about this place, REAL Blackpool fans. We all care passionately about our club and respect each others views. BJC, you certainly aint no big time Charlie and I know how you feel, how we all feel when there doesnt seem to be a lot of progress. Karl is definitely treading a fine line thats for sure. One thing being a Pool fan has taught me is to expect the unexpected and I think thats where the optimism comes from. I guess its just a case of perspective but feel free to kick me up the arse next time we meet up in F&B if that eternal optimism of mine falls down around my ears. UP THE POOL

Well its over two weeks since this rant and with one day left of the transfer window I thought it was time to comment further. So far this window we have seen one player out and one in so I guess the bean counter will be happy as thats a profit. But will Ollie be? He has seen his "hit list" miss every target so far with the latest Austin choosing the Dingles. Is it all a conspiracy?as we all seem to agree working with Ollie and playing in the Prem in a team that looks like it is going to do the impossible and stay up should be any young players dream. So why no takers? One word Agents,I'm starting to think that they have got it in for us and are turning their charges against us,for the very simple reason that we dont want anything to do with them. They see us as a threat to their gravy train and want to show that without agents we will struggle to get any player to come. Now collectively we have all agrees with Karl on this one and most,if not all agree on the wage cap as well. Are we right? It looks to all the world as it's going to be too late in this window(but with another 24hrs to go you never know) and that we are going to have to pray we dont get any injuries to key players and that charlie will still be here Tuesday.

got to agree bjc, bit worried though as ollie wants some spare strikers, i hope we find some tomorrow, i always take the view especially with younger footballers 23 and under that if they turn down a prem move no matter what the wage, that they are players we do not want if that is their limits of their ambition.
moyes has probably been bad mouthing us too other agents, ironic really because if he has it will hinder the chances of a charlie move as we can not find a replacement

First post for me...love the site. I to get very frustrated with the lack of action in the transfer window by KO. I do believe that we would be stupid to risk large pots of cash on biggish names in the hope they will keep us up. Solidifying the defence is my priority!!

i've made the comparison with us and Wimbledon of the 80s and 90s before and it seems to be even more accurate day by day. Jason Euell has compared the dressing room atmosphere to that of the Crazy Gang and our attitude to agents, epl rules, players wages and transfer speculation is getting right up the nose of the powers that be. Couple that with us having a small ground (less awayday revenue than say Leeds) and I get the impression that we are tolerated (at best) as long as we go straight back down.
I see all our close rivals have signed new players or more sinisterly got quality loan players (Vela to WBA & Keene to WHU - bastards!)
When we stay up and the collective EPL are going to be very very peeved.

Good points there, John (1:41pm today), especially re Agents .v. Blackpool (in the shape of KO).
Personally, my belief is that it's what we pay/initially offer for players, and the sum we put in their wage packets.
I'm not advocating 'break the bank' by any means - ie offering a million or so each time - but KO should start being a bit more realistic when going in for players.
Personally, again, for a team that's just come up from the Fizzy Pop League, a max. of £15k pw is just about right for the first season in the Prem.
Read somewhere else that Wee Ollie was hopeful of landing a couple (of "wee gems") tomorrow?
Only one day and 7? hours.... counting down. Window shuts at 11 PM tomorrow night).

welcome hallsim always good to have more people posting.
when we Stay up the prem will probably issue a new rule saying and team called by the name of blackpool must have 40 points deducted at the start of the season

I have been farily quiet during January, This window is doing my head in, as is all the press we are getting, roll on tuesday when we can get back to football and the business of retaining our PL status.
Not losing key players is worth not getting anyone else in.

I am sure that KO or his henchmen view these threads....I would like him or one of his to refute BJC's comments, unfortunately I doubt that he can !. I understand that we are a small club, but we do keep on boasting that we are fairly well off when compared to many EPL clubs' so is'nt it about time that the "Oyster" got real and stopped counting all the extra money in the coffers, it's time to act NOW, we are in real need of two or three new players to cover the injuries that we are now encountering. So Karl ,what about you showing some thought for the bestest, loudest set of supporters in the LAND and letting us all see that you are the swell guy that we had all started to believe in ! Blackpool FC have a little over a 24 hours time frame in which to move...So come on get your butt in gear and prove the new band of dooubters(including ME) wrong once again...and stop depending on "Sandgronun" to keep coming to your defence Prove that you really care and that you aren't just a moneygrabber
