Big John passed away in the Vic at 9pm yesterday evening. The guy you all knew as Big John was really called Paul Gardner and was my big brother. He would have been 58 years old on August the 2nd so it's very much a for this to have happened to him so young. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer on 23rd June and suffered the complication of pneumonia in the last week which he failed to conquer. Those of you who met him at the pre match sessions at F&B's will be aware of his outspoken, yet gregarious, nature and his love of all things Blackpool FC. I will post details shortly of the funeral arrangements, needless to say you're all invited. Please, all have a drink when you've read this, raise a glass and toast Big John, Paul, (I always called him Our Kid), or whatever you may have come to know him as. Very, very sadly missed.

OMG, Mickey i'm so sorry. last time I met him he said he'd been in hospital for tests and was feeling pretty rubbish, but he kept shouting the odds with that funny little laugh of his. A bitter loss, a smashing bloke, and an unashamed and unapologetic Tangerine Sincere wishes to you all and his daughter

Absolutely stunned to hear this sad news mickyg and my thoughts are with you all.
I spent quite a few match days with him at F&B's and really loved his company, views and dedication to his beloved Blackpool FC. A lad after my own heart.
I will watch out for the funeral arrangements and endeavour to be there to pay my respects.
A glass will be raised to him with pride and affection micky and as you say, "Very, very sadly missed."
Best regards Jimmy G

Micky:
My most sincere condolences to you and your family on your sad loss.
Of the all people on here, he is one of the few that I have had the pleasure of meeting and sharing a pint with.
I found him to be a Top Bloke and a true Blackpool Fan and will be greatly missed by all.
God Rest.
Yenilira.

Thanks for all your kind words, it's much appreciated at this time!
We've finally succeeded in finalising funeral details and all are welcome to attend if you wish. The only stipulation I would suggest to you if you decide to come, is, please no somber colours, or, formal dress......he hated somberness and sobriety and lived his life to the max and this should be reflected at his send off..........if you can, wear Tangerine, he would love to see a sea of it!
The cremation is to be at Lytham Crematorium (full details of where this is if you don't know can be found on-line) on Tuesday 26th July at 12.30pm.
Once again many thanks!

Micky:
It is most unfortunate - for me - that the farewell to your Paul is set for next Thursday, as it was my intention to attend, but I will be 'over in sunny Italy' by that date.
Notwithstanding, I would be much obliged if you would light a candle on my behalf in his memory.
Thanks.
Yenilira.
